I don't agree with the consumer having to make the employee smile--I work at a gym four days a week, and earn below minimum wage. The money isn't all that important, however, and I always, ALWAYS make it a point to smile and say 'hi' to each person who comes in and say 'have a good day' when they're leaving. It's just common courtesy. Although I do wonder: if a person treats their potential customers that way, you have to wonder what their relationship with family and friends is like.

Consumers have more power than ever right now. While I believe a lot of consumers abuse this power (See Kevin Smith) - that's besides the point. The point is, that no matter if its a film producer or a local artist; employers need to recognize that these users now have a more powerful voice than ever.

One tweet, one facebook update or better yet a video; could easily damage a brand in the matter of hours. The sooner employers start caring again, the better.

That is most certainly ridiculous.
In the world that we live in today, where word can be spread to hundreds in mere minutes the customers can either be your best friend or worst enemy - and the choice is that of the employee/owner.

Create an experience worth sharing... and hopefully a positive one.
Good post!

Dylan
